Spend a delicious week at il Bareto farmhouse with poet, author and teacher Judyth Hill exploring and writing about the culinary and cultural pleasures of the Italian countryside.

The Tuscan hills, an historic farmhouse, and fabulous meals will inspire you. Emphasis during the retreat will be on writing practices, using your new travels, landscape and dining experiences to learn how to have vivid, sensory details in any and everything you write. This intimate writing workshop near Siena is open to anyone who is interested in improving their writing, from journal dabblers to published writers.

When not in class or touring medieval hamlets, we'll experience the best of farm-to-table Italian cuisine. Hand-rolled ravioli, fried zucchini blossoms, gnocchi with shaved black truffles and famed Chianina beef drizzled in a Brunello wine glaze, just to name a few. Savor the slow pace of the Tuscan countryside and write to your heart's content!

This is the Writing Retreat you’ve been dreaming about!

Il Bareto, our accommodations for the week, is the perfect gateway to the cultural and sensuous pleasures of Tuscany. Located 20 minutes outside of Siena, this 16th-century, antique-filled farmhouse offers comfort as well as spectacular views, including Celsa castle, which is perched on a hill across the meadow. The delightful grounds and pool area offer a place to stroll, relax and dine al fresco.
